Calling on York: Send us your bright stories in a time that feels dark

Our York Media isn’t going anywhere. Rather than shutting the doors, we’re opening the gates.

Several years ago in a time of uncertainty, Our York Media’s story began.

Through equal parts grit, luck, and the support of the York community, we built it into something that shines as a digital beacon of hope, a regular dose of positivity in increasingly negative social feeds, a platform for local storytelling that gives York something better to talk about.

Today, we enter a new chapter in the face of an unforeseen conflict. As an invisible villain sweeps through the country, local businesses of all types and sizes, including ours, are under attack.

Our business has lost most of its revenue in what feels like overnight. We don’t know when, or if, the money will start flowing again, but we can no longer afford our employees and their immeasurable talent. Next week, my husband and partner will be looking for work elsewhere so we can pay our bills. We hope this is short term, a necessary grind to get us through everything.

Our York Media, though, isn’t going anywhere. Rather than shutting the doors, we’re opening the gates.

Together, we can rally through these tough moments and find a brighter tomorrow.

Starting now, we’ll be accepting submitted content of all kinds. Send us your own written stories or videos, and we’ll publish them as soon and as frequently as we can.

We are looking for moments of brightness in our cloudy days. Tell us about the peace you felt on a walk around your neighborhood, the joy in an otherwise chaotic week locked in the house with your kids, the examples of neighborly love you’ve seen and felt while we brace against the uncertainty.

We’re not looking for commercial quality production. We’re looking to turn our platform into a place of shared hope, of community, of joy. Together, we can rally through these tough moments and find a brighter tomorrow.

Today, Our York Media will truly embody its name. These are our stories, this is our York, and this is OUR York Media.
